Lowly Light is the pseudonym for Matt Gorny. An award-winning songwriter, from an indie-rock background, Gorny has written songs and recorded vocals for dance artists such as Ultra Nate, Amanda Lepore, Luca Perra and others, but never saw it as his genre. In 2020, he started to push himself outside his comfort zone. As a fan of left-field dance pop, embraced the opportunity to combine infectious melodies, tight percussion and electronic production. The sound of Lowly Light is a still-evolving journey, from the straight-up dance-pop of first single “Lose You”, the funky and soulful “Do You Feel Me”, and the chilled out groove of “Candy Lied”.
The latest single, “Down the Coast”, is a cinematic journey of heartache, loss and the torment of trying to reunite physically as well as emotionally. A deep desperation drives the main protagonist. It’s not clear who is who in the story, but anyone who has felt infatuation and longing will relate to the emotional drama.
Musically, the song goes through several stylistic progressions which may not sound fully compatible “on paper”. Indie pop, reggae and nu-disco sounds mix it up to contrast the lyrical depths of despair. Vocals are once again performed by C Joleene who perfectly captures the emotions with her smooth and complex voice.
